Irma Doran, 74 years of age at the time she took these photos was on her way home from visiting her son in Florence, KY. She told me she had been taking photographs for years, and this was the first tornado she had seen. While riding with her husband towards Louisville, on Interstate 71, she saw the funnel begin to form (left photo), become a classic funnel from a high-based cumulonimbus (middle photo) and finally get too close for comfort (right photo). She had only three shots remaining in her camera, and got some fantastic pictures.
